Photographer Alessandro Sgarito described his experience in India in 2019:
“The power that India unleashes is very difficult to describe unless one has experienced it firsthand. Every corner of it, every person, every smell is charged with very strong impressions, perhaps among the most intense ever experienced in a foreign country.
Among the most vivid memories is surely the smoke and ash that prevented me from keeping my eyes open for more than a few seconds at a time. The surrounding environment seemed to be always suspended in time, outside of written rules and natural laws. I have imagined that those places could possibly remind of Dante's Inferno passages but all within boundaries of composure which never turns into chaos for its own sake.
I mainly sought the spontaneity that could, even if only in part, narrate what was in front of me, in a symbolic ascent from "chaos" toward light and order. “
